The Simpsons – Tik Tok Opening Parody

May 4, 2010

On May 2nd, Season 21 Episode 20 of the Simpsons pulled a rather interesting couch gag featuring Tik Tok by artist Kei$ha.  To sum up words: I like it!  The Tik Tok song is quite catchy and I like how the team at The Simpsons incorporated it into their opening.  All the words fit with the actions occurring in the opening and a few of the gags are quite funny (look out for Dr. Hibbert pullin’ off the break dancing moves).

But I gotta say it really shows how much the 20+ year old show has changed over the years.  It’s almost a plethora of media in The Simpsons now.  We sure have come a long way from the old school couch gags.  Check out the video after the break.

The Last Airbender Trailer

Apr 24, 2010

A lot better than I was originally expecting from this movie.  Definitely a step up over the last “anime” show-turned-movie: Dragonball Evolution.  This trailer seems to capture heart and it feels like the director put effort and creativity into how each action scene will be displayed.  Now, not to say it’s going to be a good movie.  It can easily suffer from plot or character development problems.  But either way you look at it, the trailer is pretty impressive.  Check it out after the break!

It’s been a long time but one of my favourite childhood games returns for their third installment.  Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has finally been confirmed by Capcom after a decade of absence.

Robot Unicorn Attack *plus song cover*

Apr 20, 2010

http://games.adultswim.com/robot-unicorn-attack-twitchy-online-game.html

For the last month, this has been “the game” to quench boredom.  So my question is, why has this game become so effective yet many other dozens of games released on the iPhone or whatever fail to grab the same amount of attention?  I’m going to suggest two reasons after the break:

Kollaboration – Hey, Soul Sister

Apr 19, 2010

I sure have to appreciate real music.  It’s sounds like these I admire more so than the big names out there like Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber.  Granted they’re amazing singers, there’s a touch of realism missing from them.  It’s like comparing Spiderman, the average everyday kid turned superhero versus Superman, the man born to be the peoples’ champion.  In a way, the unknown, Youtube artists are a hell of a lot more relatable.

With that said, here’s one group from Kollaboration, a music contest/event between all the amazing youtube artists featuring one of my favourite songs: Hey, Soul Sister by Train. View the video after the break!

Synopsis Quest

Apr 7, 2010

http://www.skipmore.com/freegames/synopsis/synopsis.html

As Kotaku calls it, an RPG without the “fluff”.  If you have a lot of boredom and enjoy the nostalgia of an old school Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy, give this game a try.  Think of it as WarioWare for RPGs.  Some of the puzzles are challenging while others are downright simple.  Overall the game is quite enjoyable, clever, and humorous throughout and well worth a half hour to play.  A lot of the humor is based around the “typical RPG” game of the 8-bit era.  Enjoy!

Pokemon: Heart Gold & Soul Silver

Apr 2, 2010

No this is not a review, unfortunately.

http://www.pokemongoldsilver.com/

This is the site for the newly released game, Pokemon Heart Gold & Soul Silver for the Nintendo DS which are direct remakes of their original counterparts Pokemon: Gold & Silver released back well over 10 years ago for the Game Boy Color.  It’s the same game with a whole bunch of upgrades.  Not particularly on the graphics but also on the customization and features.  Read More »

Green Day: Rock Band

Mar 28, 2010

http://www.rockband.com/news/greenday-rockband-release

So it turns out Green Day is as awesome as The Beatles or Lego.  Has the music gaming industry become so damn saturated that they’ve resorted to creating a Green Day version of Rock Band.  I get it, The Beatles version made sense because they’re music is just THAT historic and THAT epic.  Lego I can partially understand because it’s a novelty in the Lego franchise to remake every game but in Lego. Nintendo 3DS

Mar 23, 2010

OMFG!

Ladies and gentlemen, the Nintendo 3DS has been announced!  All I can say about this is… amazing!  This is the successor to the original DS and will feature real 3D without the use of 3D glasses.  Quite a bold move on Nintendo’s part.  The Wii can’t even do this yet and normally speaking hand-helds are a generation behind gaming.  In other words, the Gameboy Color has graphics similar to the NES, Gameboy Advance to the SNES, and Nintendo DS to the N64.  So what’s to expect for the Nintendo 3DS?  Gamecube graphics quite clearly.  But instead of touch-screen, it’s 3D? and touch-screen? Alice in Wonderland (2010)

Mar 22, 2010

Has Tim Burton outdone himself?

The short answer is… Not really.  Alice in Wonderland (2010) feels like a sequel to the old Alice in Wonderland novel/films that was only thought halfway.  Is it trying to be an action adventure?  A mystery?  I really can’t tell.  The movie all in all feels like the kids version of Lord of the Rings.
